Cheryle Roma-Beatty
El Torcal
Part of the Spirit of Spain collection, the inspiration for C RomeBeatty's series is a result of thousands of years of wind and water erosion creating the extraordinary karst landsacpes of El Torcal de Antequera National Park in Andalucia, Spain, the most spectacular of karst reliefs in Europe. Rather than depicting the landscape literally, Cheryle captures its essence, the stillness, resilience, and subtle drama held within the land. These geological formations inspire the contrasting shapes of this series. lending power and dynamics in its simplicity while utilizing Cheryle's signature vocabulary of non-repetitive repetition. The result is a poetic and powerful series that reflects her distinctive visual language while remaining deeply rooted in place.
